Why SANS IT Security Management Training?

Instructors

With over twenty-five years of experience, SANS now have over 125,000 alumni.

SANS Training stands apart because our Instructors are, themselves, very rare individuals. They are all practicing IT security professionals who are active - at the very highest level - in their chosen field.

SANS Instructors are masterful teachers. They are expert communicators with a real understanding of how people learn. As well as possessing the innate ability to communicate and inspire, all SANS Instructors follow a rigorous training programme designed to ensure they perform at the highest level.

Courseware

To support students as they progress through management training, SANS supplies wide a selection of courseware:

  • Textbooks - SANS textbooks are written by the same security industry experts who create our courses. They follow the same flow and structure as the course's lessons. This makes for a smooth and consistent learning experience. The textbooks, like the courses they support, are updated regularly.
  • Digital resources - Courses are often built around hands on lab exercises. If relevant, students are supplied with CDs, DVDs and USBs that contain the applications they have been trained to use (licences allowing).

SANS also provides the security community a range of free Management Resources available for download.

Training Delivery

SANS understands that the pressure on a manager's time can be intense. As such we provide three training delivery methods to suit different needs. These are:

  • Training Events - Classroom like training led by a SANS Instructor.
  • Online Training - Self-directed learning taken online, via a tablet or laptop.
  • Private Training - A SANS Instructor is embedded within an organisation who deliveries training directly to staff (minimum numbers apply).

Cyber Security Management

Certification

Many of SANS' IT security Management courses align with GIAC cyber security certifications. Achieving GIAC Certification is a recognised means by which managers can demonstrate the pedigree of their cyber security skills. GIAC Certification ensures respect from cyber security practitioners and colleagues alike, and helps support career progression.

SANS Courses

SANS offers 8 distinct Management training courses and a further handful that complement the management family.

These courses fall into three categories - Core Management Courses, Advanced Management Courses and Specialist Management Courses.

SANS Core Management Courses

Our Core Courses are designed to give a solid grounding in information security. They're ideal for managers that find themselves being bombarded with technical language.

SEC301: Introduction to Information Security explores security's defining concepts, principles and terms.

Moving forward, SEC401: Security Essentials teaches managers essential skills, methods, tricks, tools and techniques needed to protect and secure an organisation's critical information assets and systems.

SANS Advanced Management Courses

For experienced, ambitious and recently promoted managers, we offer Advanced courses. These cover topics such as strategic planning, policy and leadership.

MGT514: IT Security Strategic Planning, Policy and Leadership - Managers learn about the entire strategic planning process. What it is, how it works and how to master it.

Our MGT535: Incident Response Team Management course was originally developed by Dr. Eugene Schultz, - the founder of the first US Government incident response team. Schultz has over 26 years of experience.

SANS Specialist IT Security Management Courses

For managers who wish to enhance their existing skillset, or build on existing cyber security knowledge, we offer more specialist courses.

Managers can, for example, begin to specialise in Security Leadership. In this speciality area a SANS Instructor explores topics such as network and application fundamentals, power, cooling and safety, and architectural approaches to defence. Courses such as MGT512, MGT525, MGT433 and SEC440 focus on these endeavours.

Increasingly, criminals are targeting organisations' staff with the hope of using them to gain access to critical systems.

SANS offer a curriculum designed specifically for managers who need to build, maintain and measure a security awareness programme. This course explores how to turn staff into the first line of defence. Our MGT433 course covers this sphere.

We also offer courses that specialise in Law (LEG523), and Audit (AUD507).

The SANS Promise

All of SANS's Training is crafted, written and delivered with one goal in mind: enabling students to deploy what they have learned as soon as they get back to the workplace.
