Overview

Managing and monitoring the integrity of endpoints and network devices are among the top objectives specified in Critical Security Controls. Through implementing these controls, organizations can improve their ability to protect against and respond to events, ultimately improving their risk posture and compliance over time.

The keys to achieving these goals are integration and automation. Most organizations have separate systems managing their endpoints and servers, and even more isolated systems managing mobile devices. This webcast will explore the benefits of unifying endpoint controls; how to tune policies for converged management of endpoints and servers; how converged policies can be used to more quickly detect events occurring on the endpoint or network (such as privilege escalation, decommission of security, etc.); views youd see with the converged data; how to converge your security technologies to present the converged data as needed; the need for speed to analyze threats in near realtime; and other technical and policy considerations.

Speaker Bios

Eric Cole, PhD

Eric Cole, PhD, is a SANS faculty fellow, course author and instructor who has served as CTO of McAfee and chief scientist at Lockheed Martin. He is credited on more than 20 patents, sits on several executive advisory boards and is a member of the Center for Strategic and International Studies' Commission on Cybersecurity for the 44th Presidency. Eric's books include Advanced Persistent Threat, Hackers Beware, Hiding in Plain Sight, Network Security Bible and Insider Threat. As founder of Secure Anchor Consulting, Eric puts his 20-plus years of hands-on security experience to work helping customers build dynamic defenses against advanced threats.


Patrick Bedwell

Patrick Bedwell has 17 years of experience in the network security and network management industries. He is the vice president of product marketing at AlienVault, responsible for creating and executing the go-to-market strategy for AlienVault's Unified Security Management products. Previously, Patrick was VP of product marketing at Fortinet and has held product marketing and product management leadership positions at Arcot Systems, McAfee, SecurityFocus, Network ICE and Network General. Patrick earned an MBA with honors from Santa Clara University and a BA in English from the University of California, Berkeley.


Phil Trainor

Phil Trainor is a product manager in the Applications and Security Group at Ixia Communications and has worked in network security for over 12 years in senior roles, developing and implementing products that find flaws in network security and infrastructure equipment for Fortune 500 companies and governments internationally. The focus of the most recent company, BreakingPoint Systems (which was acquired by Ixia last year) was the creation of complex network traffic scenarios comprised of both malicious and normal users, with the goal of uncovering such flaws in content aware network security devices. He has been a guest lecturer at RSA in both Silicon Valley and Singapore in addition to lecturing at Blackhat, Toorcon and ISSA.
